Biography
Sculptor, painter and illustrator, born in Birmingham, England,
where she attended the Moseley Junior Art School at the age
of twelve. She then studied Industrial Design at Birmingham
College of Art.
She
moved to London where she worked as technical illustrator and
graphic designer and became Art Editor of several trade journals.
After her marriage to a scientist, Amelia gave up commercial
art to become a sculptor, often using her four sons as models,
sketching and sculpting them every day.
She
had her first one-person show in 1971 at the John Whidley Gallery,
Cork Street, and continues to exhibit widely throughout the
UK and Europe. Amelia has received a number of commissions to
sculpt many heads and busts of well known personalities and
public figures over the years, including Stephane Grappelli,
Stirling Moss (the racing driver), Sir John Rothenstein and
the actress Zoë Wanamaker, to name but a few. She has also worked
with a number of theatre companies, dance troups and mime artists,
and was the subject of a television documentary by Harlech Television
in 1988.
She
was made an Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors
in 1988 and now lives and works from her home in The Cotswolds.
